It's another opportunity to show some of that Volunteer State spirit!
The William G. Pomeroy Foundation is looking for volunteers for National Historic Marker Day on April 26, 2024. On that day, volunteers nationwide will turn out to help beautify our communities and learn about local history by cleaning historical markers.
Register to volunteer on the William G. Pomeroy Foudnation website. Once you've registered, the'll mail you stickers, add your name to their Meet the Volunteers page, and enter you into a fun giveaway after you send them photos form your marker clearing project.
Without regular care, contaminants such as road salt, pollen, and dust can cause deterioration. By cleaning markers, we can keep them in good condition for enjoyment today and by future generations.
After completing the registration, dont forget to download the volunteer kit, which includes a guide to cleaning markers, information about planning a service project, lesson plans, and tips for publicizing your efforts.
Remember to take plenty of photos while you're volunteering. Email your pictures to us at info@wgpfoundation.org and be sure to post them on social media with the hashtag #NationalHistoricMarkerDay. The Foundation will be sharing photos on their social media as well.
